The four 2024 New Jersey Jazz Society Scholarship Winners performed with four industry professionals at the November 3 Jersey Jazz LIVE! concert at the Madison (NJ) Community Arts Center.
Pianist Lasse Corson (William Paterson/Minneapolis), saxophonist Joseph Foglia (William Paterson/Raleigh, NC), saxophonist Isaac Yi (Princeton/Leonia, NJ), and trumpeter Gabriel Chalick (Princeton/Naples, FL) were joined by tenor saxophonist/flutist Don Braden, guitarist/music director David O’Rourke, bassist Mary Ann McSweeney, and drummer Alvester Garnettt in a concert that featured Foglia’s original composition, “Around the Sun and Back Again” and Chalick’s “Song for My Brother”, along with such standards as Ray Henderson’s “Bye Bye Blackbird”, Gene de Paul’s “I’ll Remember April”, and Billy Strayhorn’s “Take the A Train”.
Congrats to all for a great afternoon of music, and a big thanks to the professionals who not only played with the young musicians, but also mentored them during a roundtable discussion that preceded the performance.
