Promoting Emerging Talent
In the March/April 2020 issue of Jersey Jazz, we initiated a Rising Stars series, featuring articles about young, emerging talent in the jazz community.
The first such article was on Evan Sherman, a young drummer from Millburn, NJ. Fifteen months later, Sherman’s quartet, the feature of our first Jersey Jazz LIVE! concert was preceded by our first Rising Stars opening acting featuring three young musicians from Newark Academy, an independent school in Livingston, NJ.
Since then, every Jersey Jazz LIVE! concert has included a Rising Stars opening act, showcasing performers from area high schools or colleges.
