Drummer Dafnis Prieto (photo above) has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and two Latin Grammy Awards. He has also won a MacArthur Fellowship Award and was once named “Up & Coming Musician of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association. As an educator, Prieto served as a faculty member in New York University’s Jazz Studies program from 2005-2014. In 2015, he joined the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music as Director of the Frost Latin Jazz Orchestra.
On Saturday, April 13, Prieto will perform with Princeton University’s Creative Large Ensemble in the one ticketed event at this year’s Princeton Jazz Festival. Earlier in the day, at free, unticketed events, Princeton student groups will be joined by clarinetist Darryl Harper, trumpeter Josh Lawrence, and vibraphonist Yuhan Su. There will also be a performance by the Princeton University Faculty Quintet.
The free concerts will be held from 1-6 p.m., followed by the CLE performance at 8 p.m. All concerts will be in Richardson Auditorium, located in Alexander Hall. For more information or to order tickets, log onto jazzatprinceton.com or music@princeton.edu.
