“A Wonderful World”, an exhibition of jazz and blues portraits by Richard Corman, is being held to benefit the Jazz Foundation of America at the Wild Geese Gallery on Manhattan’s Upper West Side through February 28.
For the past 10 years, photographer Richard Corman has been documenting musicians affiliated with JFA, which provides emergency assistance and work opportunities for jazz musicians in need. The exhibit includes 37 images of both emerging and established jazz and blues artists. The prints are signed and numbered by the photographer, and proceeds from their sale will help provide assistance to musicians in crisis. (Photo above, George Coleman at the Apollo Theatre in 2024).
There will also be concerts at the gallery in support of the exhibition. Among them: pianist Danny Mixon and vocalist Antoinette Montague, 7-9 p.m., February 19; and the Bethune Big Band, 7-9 p.m., February 26.
The Wild Geese Gallery is located at 473 Amsterdam Ave., between 82nd and 83rd streets. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Sunday, noon-7 p.m. (9 p.m. on performance evenings). For more information, log onto jazzfoundation.org or call (212) 245-3999.
