Live music returns to the Morris Museum with Jazz on the Back Deck, a four-concert series, beginning at 7:30 p.m., Thursday night, July 16, with Amani presenting a concert of “Blues, Ballads, Bossa, and a Little Bit of Bop!” The Amani sextet features Stephen Fuller on vocals, Marty Eigen on clarinet and flute, Flip Peters on guitar, Tomoko Ohno on piano, Alex Grissel on bass, and Vernon Mobley on drums.
The other three concerts are:
- July 23, Mariel Bildsten Quartet
- July 30, Dan Levinson’s “Sixth Annual Midsummer Night’s Jazz Party!” The band includes Levinson on clarinet and saxophone, Mike Davis on trumpet, Jim Fryer on trombone Rob Adkins on bass, and Kevin Dorn on drums.
- August 6, Saxophonist Don Braden, with drummer Karl Latham and Big Fun(k). Braden and Latham will be joined by Oscar Perez on keyboards and Calvin Jones on bass.
The New Jersey Jazz Society is a financial partner for the Don Braden/Karl Latham Big Fun(k) concert. NJJS’ participation in this concert is funded in part by Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
The concerts will be held atop the Morris Museum’s elevated parking deck. Attendees should bring their own chairs and refreshments. Blocks of tickets are available for purchase ranging in size from 8’x 8’ (maximum 2 for $50) to 8’x16’ (maximum 4 for $100). Everyone attending will be required to wear masks while entering and exiting their block. Rain dates are the following evening for each concert.
