At 2 p.m., Sunday afternoon, January 26, at the Metuchen Library, Metuchen Arts will present a live film strip historical overview of Ella Fitzgerald’s time with Duke Ellington and his Orchestra. The presentation will be made by Will Friedwald, winner of the 2024 Jazz Journalists Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Journalism.
Fitzgerald and Ellington had a productive artistic relationship. In the late ’50s and ’60s, they made several albums together: Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Songbook (Verve: 1957), Ella at Duke’s Place (Verve: 1965), and Ella and Duke at the Cote D’Azur (Verve: 1967).
