Kate Baker in Metuchen

January 6, 2024

The Los Angeles Times has called vocalist Kate Baker, “one of the most impressive performers to come along in years,” and the Boston Globe described her as having “an unmistakably original voice that is smooth and hypnotic.”

On Wednesday, February 14, Metuchen Jazz will present the Kate Baker Quartet in a special “It’s All About Love” Valentine’s Day concert at The Parlor at Hailey’s in downtown Metuchen. Baker will be joined by bassist Chris Berger, guitarist Paul Bollenback, and violinist Zach Brock.

Berger is one of the most sought-after bassists in the New York/New Jersey area and has played with a long list of jazz luminaries including tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, guitarist Russell Malone, and pianist Junior Mance. Bollenback lists guitarist George Benson as one of his major influences, and Benson has described Bollenback’s playing as “bona-fide, unambiguous, up-front and powerful.” Brock has performed with the Grammy-winning group, Snarky Puppy, as well as with bassist Stanley Clarke and pianist Phil Markowitz. In 2013, DownBeat named him a “Rising Star” on violin.

The Parlor at Hailey’s is located at 15 Station Place in Metuchen. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there are two sets, at 7 and 9 p.m. For more information or to order tickets, log onto https://friendsofmetuchenarts.org/metuchen-jazz-home-page.
