Jazz Arts Project’s International Jazz Day Celebration

April 15, 2024

Trumpeter and seven-time Grammy winner Randy Brecker will help Red Bank’s Jazz Arts Project celebrate International Jazz Day on Tuesday, April 30. Brecker will perform at a fundraiser being held at 6:30 p.m. at Red Bank’s Triumph Restaurant and Brewing Co. Money raised will support JAP’s various education programs. Brecker will also be honored as a “Jazz Hero” along with Kathy Horgan, former Red Bank Councilwoman and a founding Jazz Arts Project Board member.

The musical program will include a quintet led by Brecker with saxophonist Ada Rovatti (Brecker’s wife), pianist Dave Kikoski, bassis Alex Claffy, and drummer Steve Johns; vocalist Lynette Sheard and her quintet; and the Jazz Arts Academy All-Stars, selected students from JAP’s jazz training program.

In 2024, Brecker guested on Rovatti’s digital album, The Hidden World of Piloo, which featured 10 of her original compositions. In 2020, Brecker won his seventh Grammy Award for Best Improvised Solo on “Sozinho” from the Piloo Records album, Rocks.

Jazz Arts Project is a non-profit, 501(c) 3, organization which produces jazz events and educational workshops, training programs, specialized music camps and other special programs for area youth.
