Bickford Theatre: Bucky Pizzarelli Birthday Party featuring the Pizzarelli Family
January 8 @ 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
The Bickford Theatre’s Annual Birthday Bash for Hall of Fame guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli has turned into a family affair as sons John and Martin join their dad on stage for a special celebration on Monday, January 8th.
Bucky, who turns 92 on January 9th, has been at this annual birthday party every year with the exception of his 90th when he was in the hospital. The all-star ensemble for this special night of music will include John Pizzarelli on guitar, Martin Pizzarelli on bass, Ed Laub on guitar, Russ Kassoff on piano, Linus Wyrsch on sax, and Aaron Weinstein on violin.
Another special guest for this all-star event will be Bucky’s long-time friend bassist Jerry Bruno who met Bucky in 1948 when they were in the Vaughn Monroe Orchestra.
“It’s going to be just like sitting around the Pizzarelli living room with duos, trios, quartets and the whole band playing,” said guitarist Ed Laub, who has been Bucky’s guitar partner for many years. “The audience is in for an incredible treat!”
Bucky began his professional career at the age of 17 when he joined the Vaughn Monroe dance band in the early 1940s. He became a staff musician for NBC in the fifties and then became part of the famous Tonight Show Band on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in the sixties. During the sixties, he also worked as a studio musician and played on many of the rock ‘n roll hits of that era including those of Dion and the Belmonts, the Drifters, Ben E. King, and Ray Charles.
After nine decades of playing great music, Bucky may have slowed down a little bit but looks forward to this annual birthday party. Join us as we wish him a Happy 92nd!
